december whispers of treachery

Our first Blizzard of the season came over the weekend, blowing in 40-50 mph winds and temperatures in the negative double digits. Brrr.

eye of a hurricane listen to yourself churn

Christmas stocking embroidery. A 12-page research paper. 6 months' worth of photo-albuming. Christmas cards. Term-paper. The procurement and setup of a Christmas-tree-proper. Stats final. Buying, wrapping, shipping of Christmas gifts. Beginning the 'extra research outside of normal school-work' phase of my program. Staying on the ball at my newish job. Reflection paper. Scotchgarding of the new furniture. Journal review. All while adjusting to a new, tighter budget designed to maximize our savings (we wanna buy a house!). All wrapped up in three winter-time holidays and a week-long trip.

I/we have a million things to do, most of which have pressing deadlines.

So here I sit, blogging.

tons of free time here...

School has started. I've got 3 classes, boyfriend has 5. Thankfully none of mine are very intensive... in fact the stats class is pretty basic. (I may have an unfair advantage over many of my classmates however, having taken almost 3 years of 'actual' math in college - whereas this is what I like to think of as 'touchy-feely math for educators who hate math'.) Boyfriend's classes, at least most of them, don't sound too bad either. (He, by the way, is taking a lot of the 'actual' math.) We do however, both work full time. This means, in short, that even though all of our classes may not be the hardest of the hard, we are quite busy.

Also, changes at my day job. Big ones. New-job-kinda-ones.

And to complete the trifecta of busy: boyfriend and I are going to Montana next week to celebrate the wedding of some good friends. It should be fun times: I'm looking forward to introducing him to my college friends, who mostly live on the west coast. And of course I am looking forward to celebrating my friends' nuptials at what will be a gorgeously planned wedding in a breathtaking location. Visiting this wedding also involves a 15 hour road trip, and I love me some road tripping.

As for labor day weekend, not too much planned. Probably a movie or two, some homework, and (for myself at least), the arranging and hanging of picture frames.

changed environment

Did I mention keys to new townhouse apartment Monday?

I'm no good at blogging anymore. I'm trying. Hopefully more when I'm less busy... as in, when things are in one home and everything is settled and I actually get a few hours (or days or weeks?) to to process it all.

Also, I'm starting school in the fall, so...

and it stoned me to my soul

I got in to the doctoral program.

at a standstill

Waiting to look at a townhome next week.
Waiting to know whether I was admitted or denied to school for the fall.
Waiting for warmer weather (but not too warm, please).
I don't like to wait.

the next big thing

I have finally officially applied for a doctorate program. I'm not sure how I feel about that. Nervous that I won't get it? Nervous that I will?
  • If I get in, then I'll do it and I'll try to do it well.
  • If I don't get in, then it perhaps wasn't meant to be. Maybe I'll re-apply for spring admission, and maybe I won't.
I guess whatever the results are, I have put forth a good effort.

This got longer than I intended it to. C'est la vie.
